WELCOME REMARKS BY SALNAM PRESIDENT, ABU BAKARR BIGGIE KAMARA AT THE LAUNCHING CEREMONY OF THE COMMUNITY JUSTICE PROJECT (WE YONE PALAVER HUT) IN THE SIERRA LEONE COMMUNITY IN WINNIPEG. Written by ABU BAKARR BIGGIE KAMARA

THE LAUNCHING CEREMONY OF THE COMMUNITY JUSTICE

Good afternoon distinguished guests and fellow community members. On behalf of the Sierra Leone Nationals Association of Manitoba (SALNAM), I am very delighted to welcome you all to this important event which is held for the official launching of the Community Justice project in our community.

THE LAUNCHING CEREMONY OF THE COMMUNITY JUSTICEI would like to begin by thanking Councillor Jason Schreyer and our other distinguished guests for making the time out of your busy schedules to be present at this ceremony.

Indeed this is an historic and important day in the life of our community to launch this program which is meant to address conflict issues in the community through resolution in a culturally sensitive manner.

If successful, this program will also contribute to the cohesiveness of our community if we use our own resources to resolve conflicts which may divide our community. Remember that we can only stand as a strong community in this province if we are firmly united, to paraphrase a line from the national anthem of our homeland, which we have just sung here this afternoon.

I therefore encourage each and everyone of you to listen and participate in the discussions which are meant to make this project as a rallying point for community interactions. And remember that the success of this very important project is a function of your determination to participate fully as a march towards building a progressive and caring community.

In closing, I would like to congratulate and thank all the community leaders and elders who will be officially certified today for successfully completing the training to acquire the essential skills to serve as Community Justice Workers and Mediators in our community.

More importantly, I also want to commend and thank Mr. Victor KaiCombey for bringing this important initiative to our community.

Once again, I welcome you all to today's event which will be the catalyst for finding solutions to related problems which we face in our community from time to time.

I thank you all for your participation.
